UP Cabinet Approves Purchase of 25 Lakh Tablets for Youth in Major Digital Push

Date:

Chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the purchase of 25 lakh tablets for free distribution to eligible youths under the â€˜Swami Vivekananda Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana’. The state government has allocated ₹2,374.60 crore for this scheme in the 2026-27 budget and will soon issue purchase orders to the entities selected through the tendering process.

Eligible youths enrolled in degree, diploma, skill development, and other training programs will receive these devices. The objective of this five-year program is to help provide youth with access to technology and digital resources. These tablets will facilitate opportunities in education, skill training, employment, and self-employment, and will strengthen the government’s efforts to digitally empower the youth of Uttar Pradesh.

The state government stated that this scheme is not limited merely to the distribution of devices; rather, its objective is to empower the youth digitally and create better opportunities for education, employment, and self-employment. The state government also stated that this scheme would not impose any additional financial burden on the Central Government.

Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said the initiative will strengthen the digital empowerment of skilled youth across higher, technical and health education, skill development and ITI programmes.
