Jitendra Singh, UK Minister Discuss New Opportunities in Science, Space and Nuclear Energy

Date:

India and the United Kingdom are exploring ways to strengthen cooperation in areas such as space technology, civil nuclear energy, scientific research, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum science.

This discussion took place during a bilateral meeting between Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, and Jonathan Reynolds, the UK’s Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade. Both sides discussed opportunities to enhance research partnerships, technology development, and industry collaboration.

Highlighting India’s space-sector reforms, Dr. Singh said greater participation by private companies and startups had opened new avenues for innovation and investment. He proposed closer links between Indian and British startups and small businesses to promote technology exchange, strengthen supply chains and create commercial opportunities.

Civil nuclear energy was another key area of discussion, with both sides exploring cooperation in small modular reactors (SMRs), advanced nuclear technologies and related industrial capabilities. Dr. Singh also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in nuclear medicine, cancer research and healthcare.

The discussion also covered topics such as AI, quantum technology, advanced sensors, cybersecurity, and geospatial applications. Dr. Singh emphasized the development of AI solutions tailored to local needs, while both sides also discussed the practical application of new technologies and the associated security challenges.

Reynolds welcomed the strong cooperation between the research institutions and industries of both countries. He emphasized opportunities to enhance collaboration in the fields of peaceful nuclear use, space technology and AI—areas that can drive innovation and productivity.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared interest in strengthening scientific and technical ties between India and the UK, and in translating research capabilities into practical applications and commercial partnerships.
