BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has raised concerns over a viral video claiming to expose flaws in the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and called for a thorough investigation into the matter. Somaiya, who filed a complaint regarding the video, confirmed that Mumbai Police had registered an FIR based on his complaint. He also urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and relevant authorities to take swift action.
In a statement, Somaiya expressed his dissatisfaction with the spread of the video, which he claimed was an attempt to manipulate public opinion about the integrity of the EVMs. “I have also complained about the way the viral video has been circulating. Mumbai Police has registered an FIR,” he said.
The BJP leader went on to highlight that the person responsible for the video had previously posted similar content on social and digital media during the 2019 elections. He strongly criticized the actions, suggesting that the individual may be trying to influence the upcoming elections with misleading information.
Somaiya called on the Election Commission, Mumbai Police, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to investigate the matter further. “I requested the Election Commission and Mumbai Police that this video, or the so-called sting operations carried out by these individuals, should be investigated, and appropriate action should be taken against them as well,” he said.
The viral video in question has sparked a heated debate about the security of EVMs, with some alleging that the machines could be tampered with to influence election outcomes. However, many political leaders, including Shiv Sena’s Shaina NC, have already defended the integrity of EVMs, assuring the public that the systems are highly secure.
Somaiya’s call for an investigation reflects the ongoing concerns about the credibility of electronic voting in India, especially in light of the upcoming elections. As the authorities prepare to address the issue, it is expected that the investigation will shed light on the origin of the video and determine whether any malicious intent was behind its release.
This development adds to the ongoing debate surrounding election security, with all eyes now on the authorities to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and take necessary action against those responsible for spreading misinformation.
