Central Railway (CR) is gearing up to unveil a revised timetable for its Main line in August, aimed at optimizing operations and alleviating congestion on one of Mumbai’s busiest commuter routes. While the total number of services remains unchanged, the new schedule intends to enhance efficiency by redistributing train services from key hubs.
Currently, CR operates a total of 894 services on its Main line, comprising 623 slow services and 271 fast services, primarily originating from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The upcoming changes are expected to streamline operations and improve punctuality across the network.
A senior CR official elaborated on the planned adjustments, stating, “We are planning to relocate five pairs of local trains that currently depart from CSMT to Dadar. This strategic reallocation aims to mitigate congestion between CSMT and Dadar, particularly along the fast corridor used by both local and long-distance trains.”
The move is part of CR’s broader strategy to enhance service reliability and passenger experience by optimizing the distribution of local train services. By shifting some train operations to Dadar, CR aims to reduce bottlenecks and enhance the overall flow of commuter traffic along the Main line.
“The redistribution of train services will not only improve punctuality but also contribute to a smoother commuting experience for passengers traveling between CSMT and Dadar,” the official added, highlighting the anticipated benefits of the upcoming timetable adjustments.
CR’s initiative comes amidst ongoing efforts to modernize Mumbai’s suburban rail network, catering to the needs of millions of commuters who rely on local train services daily. The updated timetable is expected to be implemented with careful consideration of passenger feedback and operational efficiency, reflecting CR’s commitment to delivering reliable and efficient transportation solutions.
As preparations for the new timetable progress, CR encourages commuters to stay informed about the upcoming changes and assures that all efforts are being made to minimize disruption while maximizing service reliability on the Main line.
The introduction of the updated timetable in August signifies a proactive step by Central Railway to enhance commuter services and optimize railway operations in Mumbai, setting a positive precedent for future improvements in urban rail transit.
