BJP leader Kalidas Kolambkar took the oath as the Protem Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly at a ceremony held at the Maharashtra Raj Bhawan. The oath was administered by the state’s Governor, CP Radhakrishnan, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other senior political leaders.
Kolambkar’s appointment as Protem Speaker marks an important step in the legislative process as he assumes the responsibility of overseeing the swearing-in of newly elected members of the Assembly, facilitating the election of the Speaker, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the legislative proceedings in the interim.
Chief Minister Fadnavis extended his congratulations to Kolambkar and expressed confidence in his abilities to fulfill the crucial duties of the Protem Speaker. “Kalidas Kolambkar has always been a dedicated and respected leader. We are confident that his experience and commitment to upholding the democratic traditions of the Assembly will contribute to the effective functioning of the legislature,” Fadnavis said.
The Protem Speaker plays a key role in the initial phase of a new assembly term, handling various procedural matters until a new Speaker is elected. Kolambkar, who has had a long political career, will oversee the oath-taking process of newly elected members and help guide the election of the Assembly Speaker in the coming days.
The ceremony at Maharashtra Raj Bhawan was attended by various political dignitaries and officials, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the state’s legislative process.
