In a bid to ensure a smooth monsoon season in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde recently inspected the pre-monsoon works of drainage desilting at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) – F North Division.
Pre-Monsoon Preparations
As part of the pre-monsoon preparations, significant progress has been made in removing silt from drains across the city. The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite these works to meet the scheduled deadlines. He emphasized the crucial role of drain widening projects in averting water-related disasters during the monsoon season.
During his inspection visits to major drain sites, CM Shinde interacted with workers involved in silt removal, emphasizing the importance of thorough execution of these tasks. He assured affected citizens of compensation or alternative accommodation arrangements, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns.
Zero Casualty Mission
The city has taken up a “zero casualty mission” during the monsoon. The CM said that the cleaning of nallahs will continue till the hard base of the nallah is felt. After that, proper disposal of the silt will be done. He added that the work to fill potholes with mastic was continuing.
Warning to BMC Officials
In a stern message, CM Shinde warned BMC officials of action in case of waterlogging. He said, “If there is waterlogging in any area, it means that no proper pre-monsoon work has been done and consider taking action against the officer concerned”.
Citizen Engagement
As a measure of accountability and citizen engagement, citizens can report complaints regarding silt removal, garbage, and debris on a dedicated WhatsApp number – Chief Minister Clean Mumbai helpline.
The pre-monsoon preparations by the BMC under the guidance of CM Shinde are in full swing. The efforts are aimed at ensuring a smooth monsoon season and minimizing the risk of waterlogging and related issues in the city.
