Mumbai– Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has issued a series of directives and precautionary measures in response to the heavy rainfall affecting Mumbai, Pune, and Raigad districts. Addressing the pressing situation, CM Shinde emphasized the need for coordinated efforts and urged citizens to cooperate with authorities to ensure safety and mitigate risks.

In a statement today, CM Eknath Shinde provided an update on the rainfall situation across the affected areas. “There is water on the roads and in houses of people in Pune. There is a lot of rain at Khadakwasla Dam and in the catchment area,” he remarked, highlighting the intensifying rainfall and its impact on local communities.

To manage the crisis effectively, CM Shinde informed that District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners, and Police Commissioners are on high alert. “Teams of NDRF and SDRF are deployed, and I have spoken to the Army to keep their teams on alert,” he stated, underscoring the proactive measures taken to ensure swift response capabilities.

Acknowledging the severity of the situation in Mumbai, CM Shinde mentioned that an ‘orange’ alert has been issued for the next three hours. He directed Mumbai Municipal Commissioner to implement comprehensive measures, including the operation of 222 water pumps to drain excess water in flood-prone areas.

The heavy rainfall has also affected transportation, with water accumulation reported on railway tracks in Kurla and Ghatkopar areas. Efforts are underway to reopen the Andheri subway, currently closed due to waterlogging, to restore essential connectivity.

“I appeal to Mumbaikars not to venture outside unless absolutely necessary,” CM Shinde urged, emphasizing safety precautions amidst the adverse weather conditions. He further assured that discussions with Raigad Collector are ongoing, ensuring preparedness and vigilance in the face of the evolving situation.
