Maharashtra Government Launches Rs 5,500 Crore Internship Scheme for Unemployed Youth

In a bid to boost employability and skill development among the youth, the Maharashtra government has rolled out the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a comprehensive internship scheme worth Rs 5,500 crore. This initiative, announced during the Budget 2024-25 by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, aims to prepare young individuals for the competitive job market while providing financial support through stipends.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, addressing a public event in Pandharpur, outlined the details of the scheme, emphasizing its potential impact on enhancing youth employment prospects. “Under this initiative, the government will provide a stipend of Rs 6,000 for 12th pass candidates, Rs 8,000 for those with ITI and diploma qualifications, and Rs 10,000 for graduates and postgraduates,” Shinde announced, highlighting the varying levels of support based on educational attainment.

The Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana is administered by the Department of Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, in collaboration with the CM Public Welfare cell. Eligible candidates, aged between 18 and 35 years and domiciled in Maharashtra, will undergo a six-month internship aimed at enhancing their practical skills and industry readiness. Stipends will be disbursed via direct bank transfer to ensure seamless financial support.

The scheme’s eligibility criteria for participating industry and non-industry establishments include operational presence in Maharashtra, registration on the Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation web portal as an employer, establishment for a minimum of three years, registration with EPF, ESIC, GST, DPIT, and possession of Udyog Aadhaar, along with a valid certificate of incorporation.

“This initiative underscores our commitment to nurturing talent and fostering economic growth by equipping our youth with essential skills and exposure,” remarked a government spokesperson. The Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana aims to not only reduce unemployment but also contribute to the state’s overall socio-economic development.

As Maharashtra prepares to implement this ambitious internship scheme, stakeholders and prospective candidates are encouraged to stay updated on further announcements and application procedures. The initiative represents a significant step towards empowering the youth and creating a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of today’s competitive employment landscape.
