Mumbai: The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has achieved significant milestones in the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, marking substantial progress in infrastructure development and construction efforts.
A key highlight of the project includes the commencement of work on India’s first seven-kilometer undersea rail tunnel, which forms an integral part of the 21-kilometer tunnel connecting Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Shilphata in Mumbai. This undersea tunnel is set to revolutionize travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time significantly.
NHSRCL officials reported that substantial structural milestones have been achieved, with 194 kilometers of viaduct and 322 kilometers of pier work completed along the corridor. The construction of steel bridges, spanning varying lengths including 70 meters, 100 meters, and 130 meters, has been successfully completed in key locations such as Surat, Anand, and Vadodara, demonstrating the project’s rapid advancement.
Furthermore, bridge construction over nine rivers, such as Par, Purna, and Ambika, has been finalized, with ongoing efforts focused on major rivers like Narmada, Tapti, Mahi, and Sabarmati. These infrastructure developments aim to ensure seamless connectivity and minimal environmental impact along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor.
In Gujarat, foundation work for eight bullet train stations—Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati—has been successfully completed. This milestone underscores NHSRCL’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and accessibility through state-of-the-art rail infrastructure.
“The structural work has been completed for the Surat depot, and earthwork is finished for the Sabarmati rolling stock depot. Additionally, basement foundation work for the administrative building is complete. Survey and design works are progressing at the Thane rolling stock depot,” noted NHSRCL officials, highlighting the operational readiness achieved at various project sites.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project represents a significant leap in India’s rail infrastructure, incorporating cutting-edge technology and international best practices to deliver a world-class high-speed rail network. The development of depots and administrative facilities underscores NHSRCL’s commitment to ensuring operational efficiency and maintenance readiness across the corridor.
As the project continues to unfold, NHSRCL remains dedicated to adhering to strict timelines and quality standards, aiming to set new benchmarks in transportation infrastructure and contribute to India’s economic growth and regional development goals.
In conclusion, the progress achieved in tunnel construction, bridge development, and station infrastructure underscores NHSRCL’s commitment to transforming India’s rail landscape with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. This transformative initiative is poised to redefine travel standards, enhance connectivity, and stimulate socio-economic development across Western India.
