Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a series of groundbreaking infrastructure projects in Mumbai, Maharashtra, with a combined investment exceeding Rs 29,400 crores. This significant initiative aims to enhance regional connectivity and catalyze economic growth across the state.
Addressing a gathering of dignitaries and stakeholders, PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm at the opportunity to launch multiple projects that will transform Mumbai’s infrastructure landscape. These projects, spanning the road, railways, and ports sectors, are poised to bridge critical gaps in transportation networks and facilitate seamless movement of goods and people.
A cornerstone of PM Modi’s visit was the commencement of the Thane Borivali Tunnel Project, a monumental undertaking valued at Rs. 16,600 crores. Spanning 11.8 kilometers beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, this twin tube tunnel will establish a vital link between Western Express Highway at Borivali and Thane Ghodbander Road. The project is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time between Thane and Borivali, offering commuters enhanced convenience and efficiency.
In addition to the tunnel project, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, with an investment exceeding Rs. 6300 crore. This initiative aims to connect Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, thereby improving connectivity within Mumbai and its surrounding areas. The GMLR is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting economic activities and reducing congestion on existing road networks.
Further reinforcing the infrastructure overhaul, PM Modi inaugurated the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling project seeks to enhance operational efficiency by segregating long-distance and suburban train traffic, while the Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal will serve as a key logistics hub for handling various commodities, fostering employment opportunities and bolstering trade activities.
Recognizing the importance of robust railway infrastructure, PM Modi dedicated upgraded facilities at pivotal stations including Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. These enhancements include new platforms and extended facilities aimed at accommodating longer trains, thereby improving passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
Furthermore, PM Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a transformative initiative with an allocation of approximately Rs. 5600 crore. This program aims to empower youth through skill enhancement and industry exposure, providing structured internships to equip them with the necessary skills for future job opportunities.
PM Modi’s comprehensive agenda during his Mumbai visit underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic prosperity, and youth empowerment. These initiatives are expected to accelerate Maharashtra’s growth trajectory, promoting inclusive development and positioning the state as a hub of progress and innovation on a national scale.
