Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off three new Vande Bharat trains via video conferencing, marking a key development in India’s efforts to modernize its railway system. The newly introduced routes are Meerut-Lucknow, Madurai-Bengaluru, and Chennai-Nagercoil, each designed to enhance connectivity and contribute to the broader goal of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).
During the virtual launch, PM Modi highlighted how the expansion of the Vande Bharat network aligns with the nation’s progress towards modernization and efficient transportation. He praised the trains for their role in improving connectivity between major urban and religious centers, thereby fostering economic and social development.
“Today, we celebrate the addition of three new Vande Bharat trains, which symbolize another significant step in our country’s journey towards development,” Modi stated. He emphasized that these trains not only represent modernity and speed but also serve as a vital link connecting key regions across the country.
The new Vande Bharat services include the Meerut-Lucknow route, which will save passengers approximately one hour compared to the current fastest train. The Chennai-Nagercoil train will shorten travel time by more than two hours, while the Madurai-Bengaluru service will reduce travel time by about one hour and 30 minutes. Modi highlighted the practical benefits of these time savings for commuters, students, farmers, and professionals.
The Prime Minister particularly noted the importance of the Madurai-Bengaluru route, which connects the historic city of Madurai with the IT hub of Bengaluru. This route is expected to boost tourism and provide significant benefits to pilgrims traveling to religious sites. Similarly, the Chennai-Nagercoil route will cater to a diverse group of passengers, enhancing travel convenience and regional connectivity.
“Enhancing convenience and connectivity through the Vande Bharat trains will not only improve travel experiences but also stimulate local economies and create new job opportunities,” Modi said. He highlighted the broader economic impact of increased tourism and local business growth resulting from better transportation links.
Modi also emphasized the government’s commitment to developing southern India, noting substantial investments in railway infrastructure. Tamil Nadu’s railway budget has been allocated over Rs 6,000 crores this year, a substantial increase from previous allocations. With the addition of two more Vande Bharat trains, the total number operating in Tamil Nadu will reach eight. Karnataka has also received a significant boost with over Rs 7,000 crores allocated for railway projects.
The new Vande Bharat trains are set to provide world-class travel experiences with their modern features and efficiency. Serving the regions of Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, these trains are expected to further India’s vision of advanced, integrated transportation infrastructure and support regional development. PM Modi’s latest initiative underscores the ongoing efforts to elevate India’s railway system and drive forward the goal of a developed and prosperous nation.
