Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a series of ambitious infrastructure projects worth over Rs 29,400 crore during his visit to Mumbai today. These projects span the road, railways, and ports sectors, aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic growth in Maharashtra and beyond.
One of the key projects launched by the Prime Minister is the Thane Borivali Tunnel Project, a monumental initiative costing Rs. 16,600 crores. Spanning 11.8 kilometers, this twin tube tunnel will traverse beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, linking Western Express Highway at Borivali to Thane Ghodbander Road. It is projected to reduce travel time between Thane and Borivali by approximately 1 hour, benefiting commuters with a shorter and more efficient route.
Additionally, PM Modi initiated the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, valued at over Rs. 6300 crore. The GMLR, stretching 6.65 kilometers, will connect Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. This project aims to bolster connectivity from Western suburbs to the proposed new airport in Navi Mumbai and the Pune Mumbai Expressway, facilitating smoother transportation links across the region.
Furthering the infrastructural overhaul, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling seeks to enhance operational efficiency by segregating long-distance and suburban train traffic, thus reducing congestion and optimizing rail operations. The Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal, spanning over 32,600 square meters, is set to become a pivotal hub for handling commodities like cement, providing significant employment opportunities for local residents.
In a bid to augment Mumbai’s railway infrastructure, the Prime Minister inaugurated new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extended platforms 10 & 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. The longer platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus will accommodate longer trains, enhancing passenger capacity and operational efficiency. Similarly, the extension of platforms 10 & 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus will allow for the handling of up to 24-coach trains, facilitating smoother transit for commuters.
Moreover, PM Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a transformative initiative with an allocation of approximately Rs. 5600 crore. This youth-focused program aims to tackle unemployment by offering skill enhancement and industry exposure through internships for youth aged 18 to 30 years, fostering a skilled workforce and promoting economic empowerment.
The Prime Minister’s visit and the inauguration of these projects underscore the government’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure, promoting economic development, and addressing youth unemployment through innovative initiatives. These endeavors are poised to catalyze growth, connectivity, and prosperity across Maharashtra, reflecting a broader vision for a resilient and progressive India.
