Following the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar citing health reasons, BJP MLA Ram Kadam on Monday called the decision unprecedented and deeply principled.
“The Vice President has submitted his resignation citing his health. This is likely the first instance in history where a person has submitted their resignation on their own, despite holding such a high position,” Kadam said while addressing reporters in Mumbai.
Reflecting on the move, Kadam added, “The lesson that a hardworking worker like me learns from this is that any post is for the system, and if we are unable to do justice to that system due to health or any other reason, then it is appropriate to leave that post.”
Vice President Dhankhar’s resignation has sparked widespread reaction across political lines, with many acknowledging the rare gesture of voluntarily stepping down from one of the highest constitutional offices in the country.
The central government is yet to release an official statement on the next steps regarding the Vice President’s post.
