In a significant development in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case, one of the key accused and alleged conspirators, Tahawwur Rana, has been extradited to India. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hailed the move as a major step toward justice.
“I am very happy that the accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and one of the conspirators, Tahawwur Rana, has been brought to India,” Fadnavis said. “I thank the Prime Minister on behalf of all Mumbaikars. It was a burden on us that while Ajmal Kasab was executed as per law, the conspirator was still beyond our reach.”
Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, is believed to have played a role in facilitating the terror plot that resulted in the deaths of 166 people in Mumbai in 2008. He is now in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
“He is with the NIA now, and they are investigating the case. The NIA will decide on the course of the investigation and the legal procedures to be followed,” the Chief Minister said. “Whatever information we need, we will take from the NIA, and if they need any assistance, we will provide it through Mumbai Police.”
Rana’s extradition marks a significant victory in India’s long-standing legal pursuit of justice for the 26/11 attacks and is expected to bring new insights into the global conspiracy behind one of the deadliest terror attacks in the country’s history.
