Western Railway Introduces Centralised Monitoring System to Improve Maintenance of Lifts and Escalators Across Mumbai Central Division

Mumbai: The Western Railway Mumbai division has taken a significant step towards improving the upkeep and maintenance of lifts and escalators across railway stations under the Mumbai Central division with the launch of an advanced centralised monitoring system.

Frequent breakdowns of lifts and escalators, which have been a persistent issue affecting commuter convenience, are set to be mitigated with the implementation of this new web-based GSM alert monitoring system. The system is designed to provide real-time alerts to maintenance personnel whenever there is a malfunction, enabling swift response and resolution of issues.

Under this proactive approach, maintenance teams can promptly attend to incidents such as unauthorized activation of emergency stop buttons by miscreants, thereby minimizing disruptions and ensuring uninterrupted service for passengers.

In addition to the centralised monitoring system, a dedicated mobile application has been introduced to facilitate instant notifications to both staff and passengers in case of any disruptions. This ensures that any issues with lifts and escalators are swiftly communicated and addressed, further enhancing commuter convenience and safety.

This includes plans to introduce Vande Bharat Express services on the Ernakulam-Bengaluru route by early 2024, aimed at meeting the high demand from IT professionals and other commuters between Kerala and Bengaluru.
