In a significant development regarding the Maratha reservation issue, Maharashtra Minister Shambhuraj Desai addressed the media today following a crucial meeting with officials. The meeting focused on resolving key demands related to the Maratha community’s reservation status in the state.
Minister Shambhuraj Desai outlined the proceedings of the meeting, stating that four critical issues were discussed in detail. He emphasized the demands put forth by Manoj Jarange Patil, highlighting the community’s concerns regarding governmental notifications and the implementation of provisions from the Hyderabad Gazette pertaining to the Kunbi community.
“The draft notification concerning relatives, which has been issued by the state government, is progressing well, with 60% of the necessary work completed,” Minister Desai affirmed, indicating substantial progress on one of the primary demands.
Regarding the implementation of provisions from the Hyderabad Gazette, Minister Desai acknowledged the community’s request and assured that appropriate steps would be taken to address this matter comprehensively.
Furthermore, addressing another contentious issue raised by Jarange, Minister Desai stated, “There is a demand for the withdrawal of police cases against Maratha agitators, which is under active consideration.”
Highlighting the extension of the Shinde Committee’s mandate, tasked with examining Kunbi caste certificates in Maharashtra’s Marathwada region, Minister Desai informed the media, “The Justice Shinde Committee has been instructed to prepare a proposal for extending its operations.”
Regarding assurances to various communities, Minister Desai reassured the OBC (Other Backward Classes) community that their reservation quotas would remain intact. “There will be no reduction in the reservation given to the OBC community,” he affirmed, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to both the OBC and Maratha communities.
