Milind Deora Backs Waqf Amendment Act, Urges Muslims to Trust Government’s Intent

Date:

Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora has come out in support of the Waqf Amendment Act, urging the Muslim community to look past political fearmongering and trust the intent of the Union government.

Drawing parallels with past legislative moves, Deora said, “When the government of India abrogated Article 370 from Kashmir, a fear narrative was created in the country that Kashmiri Muslims will be harmed. Today, the biggest beneficiaries of the abrogation are Kashmiris.”

He continued, “When the CAA was brought in, a fear psychosis was spread that Muslims would lose Indian citizenship. Today, not one Muslim has lost their citizenship. When the Waqf Amendment Act came now, the opposition was spreading a fear that this was against the interest of Muslims.”

Appealing for calm and clarity, Deora added, “I appeal to the Muslims to trust the Union government’s intent.”

His remarks come amidst ongoing protests and debates over the Waqf Amendment Act, which some groups claim undermines religious and property rights. However, the government and several community leaders have maintained that the amendments aim to improve transparency and ensure better management of Waqf resources.
