SC Stays Bombay HC Acquittal in 2006 Train Blasts Case; BJP’s Kirit Somaiya Welcomes Move

Date:

Maharashtra — Following the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the Bombay High Court judgment that acquitted 12 accused in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts case, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya welcomed the move and expressed hope for justice.

“We welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. We believe that the Bombay HC was in a hurry to make a decision,” Somaiya said on Monday, voicing the BJP’s criticism of the High Court’s acquittal.

He added, “We have faith that the accused who have been given a death sentence will be hanged,” reiterating the party’s strong stance on national security and justice for victims of terrorism.

The 2006 Mumbai train bombings, which killed over 180 people and injured hundreds, remain one of the deadliest terror attacks in India’s history. The recent Supreme Court intervention puts a temporary hold on the acquittals while further legal review continues.
