BJP State President Ravindra Chavan Meets Newly Elected NMMC Corporators After Civic Poll Win

Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Ravindra Chavan on Saturday met the newly elected corporators of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) following the declaration of the Maharashtra civic poll results.

Addressing the corporators, Chavan stressed that the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation should be from the Mahayuti alliance, stating that voters have clearly endorsed the alliance’s development-focused governance model. He said the mandate reflected public approval of the work carried out by the ruling coalition.

Speaking to reporters, Chavan remarked that the decision for a Mahayuti-led Mayor was taken in advance and reiterated that citizens had supported the alliance’s development initiatives through their vote.

The civic elections, particularly in Mumbai, saw the Bharatiya Janata Party–Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) alliance emerge as the single largest bloc in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The BJP secured 89 seats, polling 11,79,273 votes, accounting for 21.58 per cent of the total votes cast. Among winning candidates, the party’s overall vote share stood at 45.22 per cent, making it the largest party in the civic body.

Its alliance partner, the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), won 29 seats with 2,73,326 votes, translating to a 5 per cent vote share. Together, the alliance emerged as the dominant bloc in the BMC.

On the opposition side, the Shiv Sena (UBT), contesting in alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), won 65 seats. The UBT-led Sena polled 7,17,736 votes, representing 13.13 per cent of the total votes, while the MNS added 6 seats with a 1.37 per cent vote share.

The Indian National Congress secured 24 seats with 2,42,646 votes, amounting to 4.44 per cent of the total vote share. Among other parties, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen won 8 seats, the Nationalist Congress Party secured 3 seats, the Samajwadi Party won 2 seats, and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) won 1 seat.

According to official figures, winning candidates from recognised political parties together polled 26,07,612 votes, accounting for 47.72 per cent of the total votes cast. The total voter turnout stood at 54,64,412, with 11,677 voters opting for NOTA.
