PM Modi Lauds Indian Athletes For Outstanding Performance At Commonwealth Games 2026

The 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) have concluded, marking a memorable year for India. Despite the absence of sports like wrestling, badminton, and shooting, the country secured a total of 39 medals, including 13 golds. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the Indian contingent’s historic performance at the CWG.

Praising the Indian athletes on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi wrote, “Proud of our contingent’s performance at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Delighted that India has won 39 medals, including 13 golds. Congratulations to the medal winners. Throughout the Games, our talented athletes displayed exceptional skill, determination, and dedication. Their hard work will continue to inspire our youth. My best wishes to the entire Indian contingent for their future endeavors. May they continue to give their best and bring glory to the nation.”

The 2026 Commonwealth Games were historic for India in many ways. Indian boxers delivered an outstanding performance, securing a total of 10 medals, including 7 golds; this marks the first time India has won 7 gold medals in boxing. Additionally, the country won two gold medals in judo for the first time in CWG history. Asmita Dey secured the country’s first gold medal in judo, while Harsh Singh also succeeded in winning gold.

Meanwhile, Gulveer Singh became the first Indian athlete to win two medals in track and field events at a single Commonwealth Games. Long-distance runner Gulveer first won a silver medal with an excellent performance in the 10,000-meter race. Subsequently, he secured a bronze medal for the country in the 5,000-meter race, becoming the first Indian athlete to win a medal in that event as well. In weightlifting, Mirabai Chanu achieved a hat-trick of gold medal wins. Meanwhile, Lovepreet won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, setting a new record in the snatch round.
