India’s Q1 Smartphone Exports Soar to Record $10 Billion, Marking Major Manufacturing Milestone

Date:

India has set a new record for smartphone exports in the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. According to the latest data, the country’s smartphone exports reached approximately $10 billion during the April-June quarter, driven primarily by Apple iPhone shipments.

In terms of value, smartphone exports rose by 23.4 percent to $9.84 billion during the April-June period, up from $7.97 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year. The US remained the largest market for smartphones exported from India, witnessing strong demand for India-made devices.

This impressive performance in smartphone exports also impacted the country’s overall electronics exports. Smartphones accounted for 64.8 percent of the total $15.2 billion worth of electronics goods exported during the April-June period.

Smartphones continue to perform well in India’s export basket. According to a report, shipments of ‘Made in India’ smartphones grew by 8 percent in 2025, while exports saw a surge of 28 percent. Approximately one-third of all smartphones manufactured in the country were exported.

Apple’s manufacturing partners were the biggest contributors to this growth. Exports by Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) rose by 48 percent year-on-year in 2025, driven by strong iPhone shipments. Meanwhile, Samsung also increased its export contribution, recording a growth of 4 percent.

Earlier this year, iPhone exports from India reached a record ₹2 lakh crore in the 2025-26 fiscal year, making Apple the country’s largest single-branded exporter across all product categories. Total smartphone exports from India for the entire fiscal year stood at approximately ₹2.6 lakh crore, with iPhones accounting for over 75 percent (around $22 billion) of that figure.

This rapid expansion in smartphone manufacturing and exports has been bolstered by the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, reforms in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), increased budgetary support for electronics manufacturing, and the recent easing of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) norms. These measures aim to further strengthen India’s position as a global manufacturing hub.
