Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav addressed the ‘Global Tiger Day 2026’ celebrations organized by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) in New Delhi today. Urging citizens to adopt a conservation-oriented lifestyle, He said that nature is not merely a source of tourism or recreation, it should be respected, and people should find peace in it.
Addressing the ‘Global Tiger Day 2026’ celebrations organized by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) in New Delhi, Yadav highlighted India’s progress in wildlife conservation and noted that the country now has a total of 3,682 tigers across 58 tiger reserves. He also mentioned that the number of elephant reserves, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and other protected areas has increased significantly over the past 12 years.
During the event, the Minister also launched the NTCA Eco-tourism portal. This is an integrated platform that provides direct links for booking safaris and accommodation across all tiger reserves. Its objective is to promote responsible and sustainable nature-based tourism.
Bhupender Yadav emphasized the importance of documenting field experiences in wildlife conservation and called for enhancing the capacity of forest personnel by adopting global best practices. He also highlighted the role of the ‘International Big Cat Alliance’ in strengthening international cooperation for the conservation of big cats.
NTCA awards were also presented to wildlife officials and frontline forest staff for their contributions to tiger conservation during the event. Five publications focused on wildlife conservation and management were released, and school students who participated in nationwide ‘Save Tiger’ awareness campaigns were also felicitated.
On the occasion of ‘Global Tiger Day,’ observed annually on July 29, India reiterated its unwavering commitment to tiger conservation. The day aims to raise awareness about tiger conservation and promote collaborative efforts to protect the species and its natural habitat.
