In a recent development, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde broke his silence on the tragic Porsche accident in Pune that has sparked outrage across the country. The accident involved a 17-year-old son of a prominent Pune builder and resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals.
CM’s Statement
Shinde, in his first remarks on the case, stated that he has been in touch with the Pune police commissioner since day one. He emphasized that the law is equal for all, irrespective of how influential the person is. “No matter how rich or poor a person is, the law is equal for all and no one will be spared. I have ordered strict action,” Shinde said.
The Incident
The accident occurred in the early hours of May 19, when the teenager, who had been celebrating his Class 12 results with his friends in two pubs in Pune, knocked down two IT professionals, both 24 years old, in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune.
Allegations and Arrests
Following the incident, there were allegations of preferential treatment given to the teenager due to his influential background. In response to these allegations, Shinde stated, “The two people who have died are also someone’s children. Strict action will be taken against all guilty people in this case. Their background will also be checked. I have personally told the police commissioner to spare no one, whether it is a doctor or anyone else.”
Two doctors from Sasoon Hospital, Dr Ajay Tawade and Dr Hari Harnor, were arrested by the Pune Crime Branch for allegedly replacing the teenager’s blood samples with those of a doctor. A peon, Atul Ghatkamble, who acted as the middleman and allegedly collected the ₹ 3 lakh bribe meant for the two doctors from the realtor’s family, was also arrested.
Political Row
The incident has also sparked a political row, with Congress’ Maharashtra President, Nana Patole, demanding the resignation of the chief minister and his deputies. Patole claimed that there is a nexus between the police, politicians, and the rich and influential people in the state. He also alleged that the son of an MLA was also involved in the accident and the legislator took part in the cover-up.
In response to these allegations, Shinde stated, “Whoever is found guilty or involved will be prosecuted.”
This incident has brought to light the need for strict law enforcement and equal treatment of all citizens, regardless of their social or economic status. As the investigation continues, the nation awaits justice for the victims of this tragic accident.
